I hope you all had a good summer.

There have been major changes to the way we do tuition at Guitar Base.   Formerly, tutors have rented space from us in which they carried out their own tuition businesses.  This has resulted in gaps with rooms vacant, often due to late cancellations.  Certain times could be filled over and over, yet other times were not really cost effective.  Discussions with individual tutors made me realise that some were unaware of issues such as public liability insurance, data protection and music licences, to name but a few.

We have a good working relationship with MLC Academy who do tuition in the city and subsequently we have arranged for MLC Academy to run the tuition at Guitar Base.  All out tutors were offered the chance to be involved in this new venture.  They receive the same pay with the added bonus that MLC will also help their professional development.  This includes CRB checks, public liability insurance, data protection and music licences, and also gives them training in first aid and offers training to teach Rockschool, Guildhall, ABRSM and ultimately BTEC as well as tuition for those wanting just to play for enjoyment.

Some tutors did not want to continue, and I wish them well, but many have stayed with us.  MLC will be able to fill any gaps and also will be offering other instruments such as keyboard/piano and hopefully, in time, brass and woodwind.  This will make tuition more cost effective for the tutors as well as for us.

There will be a price rise for existing customers of £1 per ½ hour and £2 per hour. MLC will collect payment instead of the tutors, which will help tutors to know how much they will receive.  In the event of a valid cancellation, tutors will owe you time but still receive payment.

I am aware that some of you will prefer to stay with your tutor, however I believe many of you value Guitar Base as a destination not only for tuition but are aware of the work we do for charity, in the community, work experience, repairs, restrings, guitar rentals, etc, especially the security of knowing your youngsters are taught in a welcoming, warm and safe environment.  Children especially adapt to new teachers.  You can depend on receiving excellent tuition from tutors who are receiving professional development, will keep basic records of progress and be covered legally and be fully accountable to MLC.

Then, first in ones and twos, then groups, then droves, adoring fans, high on expectation, made their way to the Stage of Dreams. Instruments checked and tuned, voices honed and all soundchecks complete. The stage now set for Weekend Warriors. The crowd grew, sipped their beers, excitement and anticipation rose as the first group appeared. Ace Inhibitors – no newcomers to this environment – engaged the audience and prepared the way for the novices, who watched nervously in the wings!

First, The Fear Project and then Indigo Reef gave everything they had. Many new to this music scene rocked and cajoled their fans into a frenzy. The crowd hung on to every note, every chord, every nuance and demanded more of their new-found idols. More, more, more demanded their fans …. But there was no more.

Now, only memories are left, tales to recount, exaggerate, tell children and children’s children of that balmy night in May when mere mortals reached for the very edge of immortality.

The crown dispersed and the wind blew in the faces of revellers and their new-found heroes. Stars shone in the night sky, joined tonight by the new, bright stars of the Boat Club.

And the traffic, less intense now, hummed its way across Trent Bridge, bound for destinations unknown, near and far!

Since 2007 more than 53,000 people have used the Take It Away scheme to help finance the purchase of over £35 million worth of musical instruments.

Whats Changing?

From 1st April, Take It Away will be available to 18 – 25 year olds only. If you are aged 26 or older, you will no longer be eligable to apply for this service. So this month is the final chance for over 25 year olds to buy an instrument on 0% finance. Call either shop today to secure yours before its too late

the Take It away scheme is changing from 1st April so that no one over 25 can apply for 0% finance via the Arts Council Scheme. If anyone is interested, especially in high end instruments, they should contact GB or Fuzz asap.

This former local weekend warriors outfit has gone from strength to strength in the last year. The original line-up of 5 guys changed in 2009 with the addition of Simon on drums and Dek on vocals. Since then, steady gigs have followed earning rave reviews. A repeated comment from landlords and audience is how much fun the band have on stage and that their infectious energy transmits itself to the crowd.

The Tanglewood TSF CE BL guitar has an attractive glossy spruce top with mahogany back and sides plus a highly playable folk cutaway design. The top, back and sides combine to deliver bright and lively tones. The mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard is extremely comfortable.
