Fender G-DEC 3

Every excuse you’ll need to play with yourself

Can it really be five years since Fender first unveiled its Guitar Digital Entertainment Centre? For 2010 it gets a serious overhaul as the G-DEC 3 in both 15- and 30-watt versions.

In addition to a wide selction of digitally modelled amps and effects, new goodies include tone presets and associated backing tracks from leading artists including Eric Johnson, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Dweezil Zappa and many more. When you dial up a preset, the relevant tones and backing tracks are loaded automatically – all fully editable of course.

Even better, The G-DEC’s jamming and performance facilities have been improved in two significant ways. First, you now get computer hook-up via USB into Fender’s FUSE interface, giving you full editing capabilities, plus the ability to download or upload mp3 or wav music files to use as backing tracks (previous versions used MIDI files only). Secondly. G-DEC 3 also has an SD card slot, enabling you to store and recall vast libraries of backing track files, sound settings and more – might the future involve simply taking a memory card to a gig so all your settings are on the house amp?

The 15-watter has an eight inch speaker, while the 30 watter gets a 10 inch speaker plus a high-frequency tweeter for full-range sound. the 30-watt model also gets stereo line-outs. Add a phrase sampler, onboard tuner and a bundle of Ableton Live Lite 8 Fender edition and AmpliTube Fender LE software, and that’s a serious pratice and performance package.
